Women are changing the landscape both on and off the field, setting new benchmarks as female sports announcers, journalists, referees, umpires, trainers, coaches, there is no limit – today.
The Women’s Sports Museum is proud to have Robin Wallace the first and only female scout to date, as a speaker at our 2017 Gala Event fund raiser for the Women’s Sports Museum this October 2016.Her story is an inspiration to us all as she never gave up her love of baseball, and after launching her career as a lawyer, she would give it up for sports if she could. In 2012, she received an invitation from Frank Marcos, the senior director of MLB’s Scouting Bureau, to attend Scout School. Wallace paid her own way to go, and the rest, as they say, is history.”I didn’t know where it would take me,” Wallace admitted. “I never thought of being a scout. I didn’t really know that was a job.
“It was a lot of hard work, but I loved it. I worked my tail off and did surprisingly well. I had no idea what it was all about, what it was going to take. It was an amazing experience. For the first time in several years, I was thinking, ‘I feel alive again. I’m happy again and I want to be back in baseball. If this is something, if I can find an opportunity here, this is where I think I belong.'”
The Women’s Sports Museum is honored to have Robin as a guest speaker at our Gala Event for the Museum in Sarasota, during the All American Girls Professional Baseball Reunion in October. The Gala Event will raise funds for the Museum to be constructed in the arts district in Sarasota mid 2017 or early 2018. Read More about the Gala Event and how you can help make the dream possible.
